Foodie Friday: La Palma

Sept 2017 - La Palma - 2

Happy Friday!

It’s finally the weekend and I’m excited to share with you my recent experience at La Palma. I remember seeing this on Instagram and didn’t think that it’s located in Toronto but then was very pleasantly surprised that it was! This restaurant has a very Cali vibe with the way the interior has been designed. We didn’t get a chance to make a reservation beforehand so we were seating in the back by the open kitchen but it was still nice. Wish we got a larger table though as the tables for 2 felt a little crammed for sharing dishes. All in all, I had a great experience, the food was very delicious and the service was amazing. The next time you’re looking to try a new restaurant in Toronto, consider La Palma.

Cacio e Pepe ($14): This is kind of like a flatbread cheese pizza with garlic and olive oil. It was SO delicious, definitely my favourite dish of the night.

Ontario Corn & Beluga Lentils ($12): This dish also has arugula pesto, feta, chickpeas and I like all of those ingredients. It had a fresh and light flavour to it with a little kick of feta. Sometimes I find that the feta can be too overpowering in flavour but this dish was delicious!

Wood-fired Cornish Hen – half ($14): The cornish hen was so tender with great flavour.

8 oz. Flatiron with chermoula ($17): It came as ‘medium’ and it was cooked perfectly. The sauce that came with the dish added a very rich flavour. I really enjoyed this!

I will definitely go back again for more of the Cacio e Pepe. Thanks for stopping by – have a great weekend!

My Obsession Monday: Velvet Knee High Boots

October 2017 - Velvet Zara Boots - Cover.jpg

Happy #MyObsessionMonday!

Fall is my favourite season – I get to wear boots and layer up while enjoying the cooler weather. I love looking for new boots to rock and this time around, I wanted a pair of statement boots.

What I really like about these blue velvet boots from Zara are that they have a really nice arch and heel shape. Those are usually the two things that I look for first. The blue colour is also very easy to pair with different outfit options so I’m looking forward to wearing it more throughout the season. This long weekend was the perfect weather to start wearing boots so I wore it out to my weekend day trip to the wineries!

Here are some fall style inspiration pictures from Pinterest – love how these ladies are rocking their knee-high boots!

I went to the Vineland wineries for the first time and it was so stunning there! Angels Gate was my favourite out of the 3 that I went to. I’ve been wanting to expand my red wine appreciation and what better way than to do some wine tastings at all the wineries we have in Ontario. As I try the same type of wine at each of the wineries, I start to figure out which ones I like. At Angels Gate, I really enjoyed the Cabernet Merlot. It’s a great one to enjoy during the holidays!

All the wineries look stunning, very quaint and smaller in size compared to some of the ones from Niagara on the Lake (although those ones are impressive too!). The views are so beautiful. The second winery I went to was Tawse Winery. I LOVE rieslings and this one was so delicious, I picked up a bottle! The Gamay was also great too since they’re running low on the 2015 bottles, we thought it was great to pick up one of those as well.

The last stop was to Fieldings Estate Winery – such a beautiful place there. I love that you can sit out and overlook the vineyard while enjoying a cheese platter and some delicious wine. We didn’t have enough time to try the cheese but will definitely try it next time!

Foodie Friday: Joe Bird

Sept 2017 - Joe Bird - 1.jpg

Happy Fri-yay!

I was researching on a new restaurant to try and came across Joe Bird that just opened last month (August)! The vibes and service there were great, but the most important thing, the food was delicious. If you are looking for something relaxing to do in downtown Toronto, I would suggest stopping by the Harbourfront for a nice walk and come here for dinner and dessert (it’s facing the water!).

We had to try one of Joe’s cocktails so we tried the Maple Whiskey Lemonade – we really liked it. It was a nice blend of citrus and sweet.

Maple Whiskey Lemonade (pitcher: $35): Sweet Quebec maple syrup and tart freshly squeezed lime juice, combined with Canadian whiskey and topped with ginger ale

They do brunch and take-out too! At the back entrance of the restaurant, they took an old RV and made that their take-out window. It’s so cute with a very retro vibe. You can also use Ritual to order take-out!

Okay, we went a little ham. I mean, it was our first time there and it’s kind of tapas style so we thought we’d order a little bit of everything to try (hahha!).

Ordered all the birds to try! Must say I like Joe’s Fried Bird the best. We had it with the Bird & Malted Waffles ($10) order and it’s a must try – so delicious. The BBQ Bird and Smokey Grilled Bird was good too.

For sides, we went with the Poutine ($5), Broccoli & Cauliflower ($4.50) and Corn on the Cob ($5). The server suggested that we get the poutine with our Smokey Grilled Bird order as it comes with a side so we went ahead and did that. Don’t judge me, but in the end, we still ordered a side of poutine cause it was so good! The corn was absolutely amazing but I always like corn on the cob like what you would get at Mexican restaurants with cheese and toppings on them. As for the broccoli & cauliflower, it was good but we didn’t eat much of it cause it had a bit too much mayo on it for our liking and we were also super stuffed at that point.

Everything is very reasonably priced. Check out their full menu here. I’ll definitely stop by on a weekend one of these days to try their brunch menu.

Spring Shopping with NEON Toronto

NEON - Store.jpg

Hey there – it’s been a while!

A few weeks ago I got invited to NEON Toronto on Queen Street in preparation for Spring! I had a wonderful shopping experience with really great customer service from the store staff. They were all so helpful and allowed me to run around pulling outfits and really maximizing the store space and decor for my photos.

NEON has been around for over 20 years in Quebec. They had a store in Toronto before relocating to a bigger space on Queen Street. I had such a fun time exploring all corners of the store and didn’t realize they carried so many brands like Levi’s, Billabong, Element, OBEY Clothing, Fjallraven and RayBan just to name a few.

Spring is always a great time to freshen up your wardrobe with a few new pieces. I went through the store and pulled out 4 spring looks to share with you before I chose my favourite one.

Layering is key when it comes to spring fashion. I kept the jean jacket as a staple piece with all 4 looks as spring is usually still quite chilly in Toronto and it’s necessary to keep a jacket around.

CMA Gala – Award Night

Processed with VSCO with a5 preset

Hi Lovelies!

Last week I had the opportunity to attend the CMA Gala with my Tangerine work family. Although we didn’t win an award this time around, it was great to be surrounded by industry professionals who were recognized for their creativity and hard work. I felt inspired and had a ton of fun bonding with the team (they’re quite amazing). Keep scrolling for outfit details and more pictures from that night.

The Little Black Dress:

I found this dress at M for Mendocino the day before the CMA Gala. It was pure luck since I don’t always shop at that store but I thought I’d pop by. After trying on a few dresses, the one that was on sale with an additional 30% off fit the best. It ended up being less than $30! I’m not sure if they’re still available at the store but since it was only a week ago, maybe it’s still there!

You can never go wrong with another LBD. The thick criss-cross straps are what makes this dress and I love the open back too. With the back of this dress, I had to wear a stick-on bra but I couldn’t find the one I have the morning of the gala so I had to purchase a new one. I’ve been told that the La Senza Lightly Lined Feather-Lite Backless Bra one is pretty good so out of desperation, I decided to take the plunge and drop $70 for them. I know I know, it’s double the cost of my dress but don’t judge me. I wore it throughout the whole night and didn’t feel uncomfortable at all and it stuck on pretty well. Now I know why it cost that much! I do recommend it if you often wear backless tops or dresses, this one is way better than the one that I misplaced.
